Massive Pelvic Osteolysis in Association with Cementless Acetabular Component

Abstract
Osteolysis, or bone loss, is well recognized late complication of total hip replacement performed with cement. This type of bone olss, often incorrectly referred to as cement disease, and it is associated with aseptic loosening of cemented
components.
But, it is now clear that osteolysis occurs after total hip replacemen without cement as well.
We reveiwed a case who had massive ballooning-like osteolysis of the ilium following the replacement of the acetabular component without cement. These records included radiographs, operative findings, histomorphologic ananlysis and clinical
datas.
The purpose of the present study was to report the importance of particle debris, consisting predominantly of submicron sized polyethylene particles led to significant bony loss after cementless THR
.
